Theo’s Bar and Pension rounds out the corner of the gringo gulch in San Jose and is popular with a late night crowd. The owner, a Canadian expat opened the bar in 2014, after buying the former Malibu.
Having lived in the ice and cold for many years, Theo decided to import his snow mobile as a kind of mascot for the bar.
Located just a few steps north of the corner of Avenue 7 and Calle 3, Theo’s Bar and Pension is just around the corner from the Poas Bar and the Amistad Bar (formerly known as La Marinita and not be confused with the Amistad Hotel).
Upstairs Theo offers rooms by the hour, which gives the business the designation of a Pension. There are occasionally a few girls in the bar who man go upstairs with generous gentlemen. Generally this is the same sparse talent that works the string of bars in this area.
