Campo Alegre operates as a concession of the Curaçao government, and was established many years ago by joint agreement between the state, Catholic church, U.S. military and petrochemical workers for what is now Royal Dutch Shell. Today it is a walled compound where no less than 300 girls ply their trade on any given afternoon. Much of the the talent comes from Colombia and the Dominican Republic for periods of 3 months at a time.
In the center of the compound is a night club with dance poles and drinks. Customers are free to directly visit any of the girls and skip the club if they so choose. The facility earns it money from the $6 fee it collects as a cover charge and the rent the girls pay on their rooms. The girls are free to name their own price for a half hour session.
