Marta Fonseca who took the mic for two hours on Friday night at the Little Marlin.
Marta did mostly rock music in English with a couple of sets in Spanish. She also did manage to entertain a full crowd, and anyone who arrived early was able to get a good seat. Marta Fonseca is scheduled to perform again this weekend at 7pm.

It’s unclear exactly how he came to be locked in the bar, but it’s apparent the person closing that night didn’t want to stick around. So, when Bill came out of the bathroom at Papi’s Bar and Grill he found himself locked inside.
Got woke up in the bar I got locked in, by the owner holding pepper spray. I was on 4 chairs, covered with a tablecloth, and had half a beer in my hand. We had a laugh when he recognized me. He said the drinks I had are on the house.
Those of you who know Bill might say that he spends so much time in a bar that a night at Papi’s might not be much of a hardship.
The problem, however is it can get pretty lonely when you are locked in alone. Bill did admit that he helped himself to some beer, but dutifully recorded consumption on a factura.
He happened to have the cell phone number of the bartender, but she didn’t answer and no one was able to come to his rescue.
Since the unfortunate incident Bill has reported to be more careful around closing time.

Semana Santa or Holy Week is the perfect time to NOT Come to Costa Rica. Those who do not understand Latin America culture are often surprised when planning a trip around Easter. From a Costa Rican perspective Semana Santa is sort of like Christmas and Spring Break rolled into one vacation package. Expect to see long lines at restaurants, hard to book hotels at tourists destinations, traffic jams of epic proportions, and most importantly a lot of girls on vacation.

The result is that San Jose is a ghost town with little or no talent among the bars and massage parlors for at least three days. Also, the general level of talent in San Jose drops off for two weeks. Normally, the sale of alcohol will be totally banned for two days in an effort to limit the partying of the locals.

Joining the party at the beach is also a bad idea for those who lack roots in the country. The lone gentleman tourist at the beach during Holy Week is clueless and NOT cool. Girls will be with their “real” boyfriends, husbands or at least their family.
A Rape Extortion plot came to a head this week when Costa Rica Police arrested a 22 year old women and her two male accomplices as they attempted to receive the last part of the extortion payment, which consisted of a car and approximately $1,000 in cash.
The victim, a 40 year old businessman for Monteverde had previously deposited $7,000 in the bank account of the 22 year old, former girlfriend. The couple had maintained a relationship for two years, and during this time she enjoyed a luxury apartment in San Jose, tuition to attend a private university, spending money, and all expense paid trips to foreign countries.
Apparently the girlfriend decided that she would not remain a kept women, and turned to extortion in order to live in the style to which she had become accustomed. She then secretly made a video of them involved in am amorous act in a car, parked in a secluded area. Apparently the tryst, which had been set up as a kind of fantasy was also setup to look like an assault.
Police were able to foil the plot because she used third parties to handle a money exchange, which police were able to document. The entire situation underlines one of the potential hazards faced by expats and local men alike when they form relationships with women in Costa Rica and Latin American countries.
