Mona Lisa Hotel and Casino is the most recent addition to the Gringo Gulch, adding 93 hotel rooms for gentleman travelers to San José, Costa Rica. Offering luxury accommodations for well under $100 a night, the hotel still retains much of the infrastructure of the four star franchise that formerly occupied the property for many years. Standard room is comparable to a U.S. style hotel for the business traveler, and includes a queen sized bed, large flat screen television, and bathroom with blow dryer, shower and bath tub. A few larger suites also have living rooms and small bars.
Of course what makes the hotel popular is a large social area on the first floor with restaurant, bars, casino, and poker room. The bar is popular among the local girls, affectionately known as Ticas who enjoy entertaining foreign gentlemen.
Mona Lisa occupies the space formerly held by the San Jose Clarion, and before that the Amon Plaza. Located at the intersection of Avenida 11 and Calle 3 Bis, the Mona Lisa is just a block down the hill from Hotel Little Havana, and close to all the activities of the Gringo Gulch.
